Raise a nation, then march it.

Both halves of a Napoleonic war in one game. Conquest starts you with a village of twenty families in a country of rivers, bridges and mountains: work the fields, the forest and the iron, grow the population your barracks recruit out of, then march over the bridge and take the enemy village. Campaign fights at real strength, with battalions of six hundred and batteries of six guns.

Or storm the beach, where the waves keep landing until the beachhead holds.

Take Japan one province at a time.

Japan, 1560. The Ashikaga shogunate has lost its grip and sixteen clans want what is left of it. Pick one, from the Miyoshi with seven provinces to the Oda with a single one, and run the war on a real-time map of the home islands: gold, rice, armies and the generals who lead them. When the armies meet you fight the battle yourself, blade drawn in the middle of the line, ordering your squads to follow you, hold, charge or form a spear wall. Mini Play is a smaller, quicker war with fewer menus. Keyboard and mouse or gamepad.

Big Browser Games is where the big ones live: simulation and strategy built for a monitor, a mouse and a keyboard, not for a thumb on a train. Every game runs from a single URL, saves to your own browser, and asks for nothing else.

Most of them come out of a working career in heavy civil construction, which is why the roads have cross-sections, the bids have change orders, and the bridges fall down when you get the load path wrong.
